What is the Swiss Association of Music Collections?

The Swiss Association of Music Collections is the Swiss branch of IAML (International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres). Switzerland was active in the international arena from the very start, and has on three occasions hosted the IAML annual congress: in Lausanne in 1961, in St Gall in 1971, and in Geneva in 1997. Today, the Swiss branch has over 45 members. Since 1990 the branch has been organized as a society.

What does my membership bring me?

Collaboration between music librarians has always been necessary in order to achieve a better sharing of resources and information, and to ensure that the special needs of music are not overlooked in the general library framework. With the advent of online union catalogues and electronic media, closer collaboration has become essential.
